Italia 1, the well-known Italian television broadcaster, recently chose Padua as the location for the programme ‘Freedom beyond the border’ hosted by Roberto Giacobbo. The programme shot a video on the city’s wonders, and in particular visited the Specola, the Anatomical Theatre and the Scrovegni Chapel.
La Specola is one of Europe’s oldest science museums, founded in 1767. The museum houses a vast collection of scientific instruments, including telescopes, microscopes and sundials, documenting the evolution of science over the centuries. In addition, the Specola offers a spectacular view of the city of Padua, with a panoramic terrace that allows you to admire the historic centre and the famous Basilica of St. Anthony.
The Anatomical Theatre is another cultural treasure of Padua, located inside the Palazzo del Bo, the building that houses the University of Padua. The theatre dates back to the 16th century and is one of the oldest anatomical theatres in the world still in use. Inside you can admire the original stepped wooden floor, on which medical students used to attend anatomy lessons.
The Scrovegni Chapel is one of the best known attractions in Padua, famous for Giotto’s frescoes decorating the walls of the building. The chapel dates back to the 14th century and was commissioned by the Scrovegni family, who wished to redeem their sins through art. Giotto’s frescoes depict biblical scenes and miracles of Christ, and are considered among the absolute masterpieces of Western art.
Padua is an extraordinary city with a rich history and an unparalleled cultural heritage. Besides the Specola, the Anatomical Theatre and the Scrovegni Chapel, the city offers many other attractions, such as the Basilica of St. Anthony, the Palazzo della Ragione and the famous Piazza delle Erbe. Padua is also an important centre for the production of contemporary art and street art, with nationally and internationally renowned artists decorating its streets and walls.
The city of Padua, therefore, represents a unique and unforgettable cultural experience that cannot be missed. Thanks to the visit of Roberto Giacobbo’s ‘Freedom beyond the border’, Padua has received even more attention and visibility on a national level, confirming its position as one of the most important and fascinating cities in Italy.
